if you muck up jail breaking your ipod and when you plug it into your computer and it says USB Device not reconised. Put your ipod into recovory mode by holding down the home buttonand the sleep button until it is in recovory mode. And then just jailbreak it by making it ra1n.

Is recovery mode DFU mode ?

I have had over 18 years iPod experience.

DFU mode and recovery mode are very, very different.

Recovery Mode: Displays the 'Connect to iTunes screen' and HAS to recover once entered in that mode. Access by holding the Home and Sleep/Power button until iTunes appears asking to recover. Use when iPod has problems (freezing etc) or just want erase everything.

DFU: Stands for Device Firmware Upgrade. Displays NOTHING on the screen when accessed and a WHITE screen when recovering. You can restore ANY firmware, even downgrade if you want to. Access by holding Power/Sleep button for 10 seconds, then hold both buttons for 30 seconds, then let go of Power/Sleep until iTunes pops up stating that its in recovery mode. Use this as a LAST RESORT SUCH AS IPOD NOT TURNING ON.
